DAMPERS TIPS
Leak check of isolation dampers
It may be difficult to test dampers for leak tightness. It is best to check the damper blade seals to confirm
that they are sitting tight against the seat and there are no visible leak paths. This can be done by doing a
smoke test at the face of a closed damper with pressure on the other side, or by observing a light shining
across the face of a closed damper. If gaps are identified, the actuator and damper blade positioning may
have to adjusted for a tight closure or blade seals replaced.
Gravity backdraft dampers
In case of relatively large or critical applications, the blade shaft bearings should be of ball bearing type rather
than sleeve bearings.
