There are various types of fans. They can be divided broadly into two categories -

Centrifugal Fans

There are various types of centrifugal fans, depending on the blade design and other characteristics. Following are some of the basic blade designs -

Forward curve blades (used for small to medium applications)

Backward curve blades (used for medium to large applications)

Paddle blades (used for high pressure applications)

Axial Fans

There are two main types of axial fans -

Propeller fans (used for small low pressure applications)

Vaneaxial fans (used for medium to large applications)

The vaneaxial fans have the advantage of having adjustable pitch blades, such that the flow rates can be changed by adjusting blade angle.
