HVAC Software

The software available from HVAC Prime Source (HPS) is all Excel based. Only basic knowledge of Excel is required, and the instructions for using all the software are very simple. A description of the software available from HPS is provided below. Some of this software is free, while others are available at a very low price. Free software can be downloaded by using the links below, while low price software can be purchased by using the "Add to Cart" buttons and you will receive it within 5 to 10 days.

NOTE: In case the software has sample values in the input cells, simply over-write with the new values.

  • 1. Cooling and Heating Load

This software provides the cooling and heating loads for sizing the HVAC system and determining air flow quantities. The input required is environmental and room temperature conditions, room dimensions, construction details, and equipment/lighting heat loads. This program provides a simplified calculation for estimating the cooling & heating loads for most systems. It is a far simpler tool to use than the typical software available in the industry, which are more complicated and expensive. The calculation method and data used is based on ASHRAE and Carrier Handbooks.

Cost = $ 18.00

  • 2. Duct Pressure Drop

This software provides the pressure drop for various duct fittings to be able to determine the total pressure drop for a typical system and size the fan. The input required is duct dimensions, fittings and air flows. This program provides a simplified calculation for determining the fan differential pressure. It is a far simpler tool to use than the typical software available in the industry, which are much more complicated and expensive. The calculation method and data used is based on ASHRAE and Carrier Handbooks. The program also facilitates drawing a schematic flow diagram of the system.

Cost = $ 18.00

  • 3. Pump Pressure Drop

    This software provides the pressure drop for various pipe fittings to be able to determine the total pressure drop for a typical chilled water or hot water system and size the pump. The input required is pipe dimensions, fittings and flow gpm. This program provides a simplified calculation for determining the pump pressure head. It is a far simpler tool to use than the typical software available in the industry, which are much more complicated and expensive. The calculation method and data used is based on Crane, Cameron and Carrier Handbooks. The program also facilitates drawing a schematic flow diagram of the system.

    Cost = $ 18.00

  • 4. Refrigerant Pipe Sizing

    This software provides the sizing of the refrigerant pipes/lines for a typical split air-conditioning or refrigeration system, which has the compressor/condenser unit located separately from the cooling coil. It is very critical to size the refrigerant lines correctly, or it can result in system malfunction or compressor damage. This software sizes the refrigerant compressor suction, discharge and liquid lines, and provides the recommended sub-cooling and superheat temperatures. The input required is max/min cooling load, length of piping and fittings, condensing temperature, etc. This program provides a simplified calculation for determining the line sizes for typical copper tubing material. It is a far simpler tool to use than the typical software available in the industry, which are more complicated and expensive. The calculation method and data used is based on ASHRAE and Carrier Handbooks.

  • 5. Cooling Load Formulas (Free)

    This software provides calculations to determine the sensible, latent and total cooling loads, by using formulas based on air flow parameters. The inputs required are air flow rate, temperature, and moisture/ humidity, which are available from the design conditions and Psychometric charts. These formulas can be used to determine the outside makeup air load based on outside air and room air parameters, and total load on the cooling coil based on coil inlet and outlet air parameters. This program provides a simplified calculation for determining the sensible and latent cooling loads essential for sizing and specifying the equipment. The calculation method is based on standard formulas given in ASHRAE and Carrier Handbooks.

  • 6. Fan Performance (Free)

For a given airflow and pressure, this software provides the fan Horsepower, Amps current, and fan heat gain or increase in supply air temperature due to fan heat. It is a useful tool to estimate the power requirements and the heat load from the fan that needs to be added to the cooling load. Click on the link below to download this software.

  • 7. Pump Performance (Free)

For a given fluid flow and pressure, this software provides the pump horsepower, and NPSH. It is a useful tool to estimate the power requirements and the NPSH for a Pump. Click on the link below to download this software.

  • 8. Air Leakage (Free)

This software determines the air leakage through the cracks or a penetrations. It is a useful tool to determine the makeup air required for room pressurization such as for clean rooms. It can also be used for air leakages from ductwork, or in-leakage/infiltration of outside air to determine the impact on heating or cooling load. The calculation method is based on sharp edge orifice flows per Crane Handbook. Click on the link below to download this software.

  • 9. Pipe Insulation (Free)

This software provides the heat load from insulated or bare pipes, and the insulation thickness needed for a given type of insulation to limit the heat load and surface temperature, as required. The input required is pipe dimensions, insulation k value, and temperature conditions. The calculation method is based on ASHRAE Handbook. Click on the link below to download this software.

  • 10. HVAC Unit Conversions (Free)

This is a useful tool to convert the units typically used in HVAC design, such as inches of water gauge, velocity to velocity pressure, actual air flow quantity to standard air flow quatity, and several others. Normally these conversions are either not available in standard conversion tables or require hand calculations. Click on the link below to download this software.
